E-sedan Nio ET7

So far, ranges of e-cars in the middle three-digit regions have been considered generous. Nio is now announcing a four-digit advance.

The Chinese electric car start-up Nio is expanding its range of SUV models to include the ET7 luxury sedan. The 5,10 meter long four-door model now presented in China offers several superlatives. Most impressive is its 150 kWh solid battery, which not only allows a range of more than 1.000 kilometers, but also minimizes charging time thanks to the change function.

Lots of power from the front and back

The ET7 comes across as surprisingly factual and has the aura of a mid-range sedan. With a drag coefficient of 0,23, the outer skin is extremely streamlined, which should be particularly beneficial for efficiency. The drive is generous, because while an electric motor acting on the front axle mobilizes 180 kW / 245 PS, it is 300 kW / 408 PS at the rear. The all-wheel drive with 480 kW / 653 PS and 850 Newton meters of system power allows a sprint to 100 km / h in 3,9 seconds.

Future customers of the ET7 can choose between three battery versions. All are based on a solid-state battery, which is characterized by an energy density of up to 360 watt hours per kilogram. In addition to the already mentioned top version with 150 kWh, there is also a 70 kWh version for around 500 kilometers and a 100 kWh battery with a range of 700 kilometers to choose from. Nio operates a swap system for its vehicles in China, which also allows the battery to be changed quickly in the case of the ET7, which avoids annoying charging times when traveling.

Relax with the best sound quality

The tidy driver's seat of the ET7 is characterized by a huge 12,8-inch touchscreen in the center console and a smaller display behind the steering wheel. Among other things, sustainable materials made of rattan are used here. Air-conditioned massage seats in the front and a 1.000 watt surround sound system are standard on board. The ET7 also has a panoramic glass roof of almost two square meters.

Thanks to strong computing power and 33 sensor units, which include cameras, LiDAR, cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors and also V2X communication technology, the limousine should master automated driving skills at autonomy level 3.

The Nio ET7 can be pre-ordered in China. In the first quarter of 2022, the first copies will be on the road. Prices start at 48.000 euros, provided the customer opts for the basic version and a battery rental. If you want to call the battery your own, you have to pay around 8.500 euros extra, according to Nio. The Premier Edition with a range of 66.500 kilometers costs around 700 euros including the battery. The Chinese have not yet announced a price for the top version.
