Nikola Motor Company's electric truck - trucks redesigned

In May 2016 caused the US start-up Nikola Motor Company with the presentation of an electrically powered superTrucks called One for headlines. At that time, however, the tractor only existed virtually. Now the Americans have refilled and revealed a first prototype. The vices worth seeing have however a clearly modified technology than initially announced.

In its original version, the One impressed with incredible numbers. The first plans envisaged that the Stromer is powered by six engines with a total of over 2.000 PS and 5.000 Newtonmeter power. A battery in combination with a power-generating gas turbine should enable ranges of 2.000 kilometers.

The new plans do not sound quite so impressive, but still very ambitious. Now, the One should have a 1.000 PS and 2.700 Newton meters strong electric drive, which draws electricity primarily from a fuel cell. In addition, the tractor has a powerful 320-kW / h battery as a buffer on board. With a full battery and full hydrogen tanks, the truck is said to be traveling 1.900 kilometers.

Nikola CEO Trevor Milton describes the One as a game changer, which should revolutionize the logistics industry. If one believes his statements, there is already keen interest in the emission-free vice of the future. Accordingly, orders worth almost three billion US dollars are already available. Money that the company needs to implement their ambitious plans. 2017 wants to start with the construction of a completely new factory, 2020 the first vehicles to be delivered to customers. In addition, Nikola wants to build a network of hydrogen refueling stations in the US and Canada. The first of a total of 364 stations are already being created by 2018. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
