The electric G-Class is coming as early as 2024

With the EQG, Mercedes 2021 has given a concrete preview of a purely electrically powered G-Class. The corresponding series version is scheduled to start as early as 2024

Mercedes wants to convert its entire model range to electric drive by 2030. This also applies to the G-Class, which is already in the starting blocks.

As early as 2024, Mercedes will have a purely electrically powered variant of its off-road classic G-Class launch. Mercedes boss Ola Källenius called this surprisingly early time the “Autoblog” portal. The all-wheel drive electrician should therefore be available by mid to late 2024 at the latest.

A concrete view of the electric G class Mercedes had already given in September 2021 at the IAA with the EQG concept vehicle. The show car's equipment includes a ladder frame, independent wheel suspension on the front axle and a rigid rear axle newly developed for the integration of the electric drive. Four electric motors that are close to the wheel and can be controlled individually allow you to variable all-wheel drive. The batteries integrated in the ladder frame also ensure a low center of gravity. A climbing ability of up to 100 percent should be possible with the appropriate ground. It is not yet known to what extent this will also be included in the series models.
