Increased risk of congestion despite Corona

Traffic jams on weekends have become rare since Corona. But the upcoming Pentecost holidays could be an exception.

Despite the ongoing restrictions on public life due to Corona, the ADAC traffic club expects in its traffic jam forecast for the coming Pentecost weekend with increased travel activities and higher traffic jam potential. Compared to the pre-Corona period, however, the number of disruptions is likely to be far lower and probably similar to the previous year's level. In 2020, at Pentecost, 3.591 traffic jams with a total length of 5.072 kilometers were counted, a year earlier there were 5.518 traffic jams with a length of 11.600 kilometers.

More cars and traffic jams are expected, among other things, due to the beginning of the Whitsun holidays in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the end of the holidays in Saxony-Anhalt. Accordingly, Friday afternoon and early evening as well as Saturday morning and Monday afternoon should be particularly congested. Heavy traffic loads are to be expected for the highways to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and around the greater Hamburg, Munich, Berlin and Cologne areas.
