Euro NCAP top mark for the new Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is one of the safest cars in Europe. This is the result of the latest crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP, the leading independent European vehicle safety assessment organization. With five stars, the CR-V received the top grade.

To help consumers orient themselves, the rating scheme summarizes the safety of the entire vehicle in a single note. Occupant safety, child safety and pedestrian safety as well as the availability of driver assistance systems are examined. Since the introduction of the current Euro NCAP test criteria in February 2009, all tested Honda models received five stars: Accord, Insight, Jazz, CR-Z, Civic and now the new CR-V.

The top rating of the compact SUV produced in Europe underlines the importance of vehicle safety at Honda. 2001 opened Honda's own car-to-car crash test facility in Tochigi, Japan, to simulate accident constellations with larger and smaller vehicles. The aim is to develop solutions that mitigate the consequences of accidents for passengers and pedestrians.

The new CR-V is already receiving top marks for its cargo volume, which at 589 to 1.669 liters is unparalleled in the compact SUV segment. Safety features of the new Honda CR-V

Electronic stability program VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) with traction control
VSA ensures that the vehicle remains in control even when cornering, when accelerating or during sudden maneuvers. The system applies braking force to one or more wheels independently of each other while controlling the throttle, ignition and fuel systems to allow the driver to maintain the desired direction of travel.

Adaptive Electric Power Steering MA-EPS (Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering)
The system registers instability of the vehicle on slippery roads, both during cornering and braking, and automatically gives impulses that cause the driver to steer in the right direction. MA-EPS increases vehicle efficiency, improves feedback to the driver and reduces understeer and oversteer.

Emergency Stop System (ESS)
ESS automatically triggers a fast flashing of the hazard warning lights during emergency braking. This will warn the following traffic and reduce the risk of a rear-end collision.

Advanced Driver Assist Systems
The Honda Safety package consists of three pioneering technologies:
1. Active Lane Keeping Assist LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System)

LKAS records the lane markings via a camera. If the system detects that the vehicle is not in the middle of the lane, it automatically initiates corrective steering.
2. Adaptive Cruise Control ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)
ACC makes it possible to set the speed and the preferred distance to the vehicle in front. If the selected distance is exceeded, the system brakes the vehicle. If more braking power is needed, the system alerts the driver to this by visual and acoustic signals.
3. Collision warning system CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System)
CMBS monitors the distance to the vehicle in front, warns the driver if a collision could occur, and actively reduces the impact of an impact when a collision is unavoidable.

Basically, the safety package is there to support the driver. It should not replace it.

ACE (TM) Body Structure (Advanced Compatibility Engineering)
The ACE (TM) body structure provides significantly improved occupant protection in a wide variety of accident situations. A polygonal frame attached to the vehicle front prevents deformation of the passenger compartment and controls the forces acting on an accident in a controlled manner away from the occupants. The ACE (TM) structure also helps to improve partner protection in the event of an accident, especially between vehicles of different sizes and weight classes.

The front end of the new CR-V has been designed to absorb the energy of a collision with a pedestrian. Special pedestrian protection measures include:
- an obstacle-free space below the bonnet, which leaves more room for deformation
- Wiper joints that break in the event of an impact

Whiplash Protection System
Integrated into the front seats of the new CR-V is a whiplash protection system specifically designed to reduce the severity of neck injuries in a rear-end collision.
