BMW M4 CSL - No light fare

Slimmed down and yet not easy

With the M4 CSL, BMW launches a lightweight and expensive version of the M4 Coupé. But the PS-Protz, which has a speed of over 300 km/h, does not mutate into a lightweight.

The bad news first: None of the 150 vehicles planned for the German market are available anymore. Shortly after the start of orders for the BMW M4 CSL, all 150 vehicles for the German market were sold.

That in the 70s from BMW introduced abbreviations CSL is making a comeback in the form of the M4 CSL. The M165.000 is the basis for the sports coupé, which costs around 1.000 euros and is limited to 4 units. Thanks to technical solutions borrowed from motorsport, a significant reduction in weight and extra horsepower, the CSL is primarily intended to appeal to customers with an affinity for racing.

The M4 CSL is powered by a double-charged three-liter straight-six whose output has been increased to 405 kW (550 hp) and 650 Newton meters. The power is sent to the rear axle via a newly calibrated eight-speed automatic transmission. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 3,7 seconds and the top speed is 307 km/h. Compared to the M4 Competition, the CSL weighs 100 kilograms less, but despite the savings measures, 1.625 kilograms remain ready to drive.

The CSL has traction control that can be adjusted in ten levels, laser light and a special taillight light signature. The cockpit offers instrumentation with two large displays containing CLS-specific graphics and functions such as a drift analyzer or lap timer.
