Fewer cars in the city

There are plenty of differences in lifestyle between urban and rural areas. This can also be seen in the use of a car or bicycle.

City dwellers are more likely to forego their own car for reasons of climate protection than people in small towns or in the country. This is the result of a Forsa survey that was carried out on behalf of the TÜV Association at the beginning of June. The proportion of people who renounce the car is 8 percent in smaller cities and 100.000 percent in large cities with more than 20 inhabitants. The differences in the use of alternative mobility offers are also clear when comparing large and small cities. In the metropolises 54 percent of those questioned get on their bikes, in small towns only 44 percent. 38 percent of city dwellers use the train for longer distances in order to travel in a climate-friendly manner, in more rural regions the figure is 21 percent. Almost half (49 percent) of city dwellers are in favor of reducing traffic areas in favor of alternative means of transport. This idea meets with approval from only 33 percent of the residents of smaller cities.
