The world is going electric. More and more electrically powered super sports cars and visions of sports car manufacturers are also being used in the virtual gaming world. One day, however, these vision cars could also become real vehicles for the road. Automobile manufacturer Jaguar initially wants to score with its Vision GT in the virtual world on the game console.
Jaguar Vision GT - Futuristic silhouette
With its futuristic GT, the British carmaker wants to play console games Gran Turismo delight game fans. One found orientation in historic Jaguar racing cars. Legendary racing cars such as the C-Type from the 50s or the Jaguar D-Type were the inspiration for the design.
A super flat, aerodynamic shape, ultra-slim headlights and an extendable rear wing ensure the futuristic silhouette.
Oliver Cattell-Ford, responsible for exterior design at Jaguar Advanced Design, said: “This was a car designer's dream project. Developing a futuristic sports car for Gran Turismo means that our designs and ideas can really be limitless."
Built from lightweight materials, a rigid carbon fiber monocoque, the Jaguar Vision GT virtually weighs less than 1.400 kilograms. Whereby the virtual data could basically also be applied to “reality”.
Electric drive with over 1000 hp
The Jaguar Formula E racing cars provide the electric drive. One electric motor works on the two front wheels and two electric motors on the rear. Together they deliver 1.020 hp with a torque of 1.200 Nm. The GT can be virtually accelerated to 100 km/h within two seconds. On the games console, the Jaguar Vision GT is faster than 320 km/h.
It must have been a unique challenge for the engineers at Jaguar Racing to transfer the knowledge gained from the FIA Formula E Championship to a virtual racing car.
The future is also in the interior. The developers work with holographic displays and augmented reality. The driver can see his surroundings via an all-round vision package. Reversing cameras and three-dimensional displays complete the futuristic cockpit.
McLaren BC03 - From the virtual world to reality
[dropcap size=big]BC03[/dropcap]Whether a vision will one day become a real racing car is anyone's guess. McLaren is already breaking new ground here. The McLaren Ultimate Vision should only be available for the game console. Now it is being transferred to reality at the special request of the customer. In response to a customer request from the USA, they want to build a unique BC03.
BC stands for "Bespoke Commission", the 03 for the third vehicle in the series with the MSO R and the X-1.
Due to the available basis, however, the unique piece should not be as extreme as the virtual version. The driver sits virtually in the cockpit like on a motorcycle. In reality, however, again conventionally in a driver's seat.
