Ford Mondeo: it will be over in a year

The end of the Ford Mondeo is over. Two close relatives are allowed to live on for the time being.

Ford will end production of the Mondeo mid-range model in March 2022. As in the USA, the group intends to focus primarily on SUVs in this country too; Sedan and station wagon will therefore not have a direct successor, instead a crossover model should fill the gap in the middle class in the coming year.

The old Mondeo platform lives on for the time being, as the technically related Vans Galaxy and S-Max will initially continue to be built, contrary to earlier speculations.

The Mondeo was first launched in 1993 as the successor to the Sierra. The new name should indicate that the model was intended as a world car and was sold in numerous markets with only minor modifications. The current generation has been on the market since 2014 and is a close relative of the American Ford Fusion. Since last year there has only been a limited range of models; the only engines available are diesel and hybrids, for example.
