VLN - Run 5 - 54th ADAC Reinoldus endurance race

There were four different winners in the first four VLN races and the starting field on today's Saturday also offers a colorful mix of top-class starters. Whether Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz or Ford - the VLN starting field offers a colorful mix of first-class vehicles.

Traditionally, the VLN run after the 24-hour race is thinner than the other VLN races, but up here in the Eifel a “thin starter field” still means a field of around 150 vehicles.

In my opinion, the top favorites for the day's win are driving a BMW Z4 GT3 and they are from Team H&R Spezialfedern. At the wheel is Uwe Alzen from Betzdorf and Buurman from the Netherlands. Just as well set up and with a lively guest starter on the valance, the “raging meatball” comes to the start. The Frikadelli-Porsche has already shown that it can win too. During the fifth race, Sabine Schmitz, Klaus Abbelen and Patrick Huismann, the aforementioned guest starter Stippler, will be at the wheel of the Porsche 911.

Walkenhorst BMW Z4 powered by Dunlop

The Z4 GT3 of the Walkenhorst team should also not be ignored. The only top GT3 that will start this year with Dunlop tires, why is that? More on that later in a separate article. The Ford GT3 from Jürgen Alzen and Dominik Schwager and the Ferrari F458 Italia GT3 from GT Corse by Rinaldi round off the field of top vehicles. In addition to these top racers from the SP9 class, there are also some exotic cars in the SP8: two beefy Lexus ISF, for example, and the Aston Martin V12 Vantage and a self-built Audi R8 also exotic cars.

Strong field also beyond the top group
Two absolute crowd favorites enrich the field of participants for the first time this year in the fifth run. Andreas and Ralf Schall (Dornstadt) are finally launching their Mercedes-Benz 190 E again. And with Jürgen Freiburg and Norbert Kraft (both Hagen) the Volkswagen Corado returns to the 'Green Hell'.

Strongly occupied, the Cup classes present themselves at the end of the first half of the season. The preliminary list of participants includes 13 Opel Astra OPC, 6 Porsche Carrera, 8 Toyota TMG GT86, 9 Renault Clio and finally 11 BMW M235i Racing. The one-make cups within the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft offer thrilling motorsport because the protagonists are fighting for equal footage by every tenth of a second on the racetrack.

Who will be the half time champion?
After four out of ten races, Rolf Derscheid (Much) and Michael Flehmer (Overath) lead the table in the BMW 325i of the MSC Wahlscheid. The experienced duo achieved four class victories and with 38,05 points, the lead over Max Partl (Pyrbaum) and Jörg Weidinger (Happurg), who compete for Team Scheid-Partl Motorsport in the BMW M235i Racing Cup, is 2,14 points. The runner-up, with their 0,42 points ahead of them, will not have much of a cushion for Frank Kräling (Winterberg), Marc Gindorf (Monaco) and Christopher Brück (Cologne) in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Fourth place went to Karsten Quadder (Solingen) and Stefan Kniesburges (Pulheim), who drove the 13 class victory in a row with their Ford Focus in the fourth race, thus setting the existing record of Dirk Adorf (Hennef) and Harald Thönnes (Mülheim-Kärlich).
