Gap filler: Mercedes Concept Coupé SUV

BMW led the way and apparently the others absolutely have to do the same. The senseless combination of SUV and coupe.

Like the BMW X6, the upcoming Mercedes Benz “Coupé SUV” (MLC) will also fill a gap that was not known until recently. The disadvantages of an SUV, such as increased air resistance and therefore increased consumption, a high center of gravity and therefore less dynamics when cornering - are combined with the biggest disadvantage of a coupé: the reduced space in the interior. And that a coupé SUV still makes a powerful appearance and, as with the BMW derivative, causes massive discussions. As is well known, minus and minus results in plus and here the plus is reflected in the currency of attention. Like the X6, the upcoming coupé version of a Mercedes-Benz M-Class will probably not be for people with low self-confidence.

You combine the disadvantages of the vehicle classes and create new niches.

On the other hand there is the never-ending search for new vehicle classes. So far, Mercedes has been very successful in this search. Of the Mercedes CLS and the Shooting Brake are great examples of the possible combination of previously unlikely vehicle classes. The sales success of the X6 in North America, Asia and Russia also shows that there are enough people who do not make sense and like to use unusual vehicles.

The expansion of Mercedes-Benz into this niche was foreseeable and the “Concept Coupe SUV” will definitely come – even if there is still talk of a concept vehicle in Beijing in two weeks. Possible name: Mercedes MLC. Possible date: Detroit 2015.
