money for electricity

Anyone who drives an electric car saves greenhouse gas emissions. There is now money from the greenhouse gas reduction quota system for this.

Besides Purchase premium and it offers relief for company car taxation streamers Another financial advantage: Since the beginning of the year, owners have been able to sell the greenhouse gas emissions they have saved on their vehicles and earn several hundred euros. All you need is an internet connection and a cell phone camera – and a suitable intermediary.

Can you sell unused emissions?

The basis for the additional income is the greenhouse gas reduction quota – GHG quota for short. It has existed for industry for some time and dictates to oil companies how many tonnes of greenhouse gases they may emit. If the value is exceeded, there are penalties, and those who fall below it can sell the superfluous pollution rights to competitors. Originally, the industry was primarily supposed to trade pollution rights among themselves, but since the beginning of the year private individuals have also been among the sellers. In principle, they receive the penalties from industry that would otherwise flow into the federal budget. Seen in this way, the recipients of the money do not support the oil companies – they would have to pay the amount one way or another. But they get money that would otherwise be available to the community.

Only owners of pure electric cars are entitled to participate. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are left out, as are hydrogen and natural gas cars. It doesn't matter whether the vehicle is bought or leased. In addition, all private and commercial operators of charging points are also owners of a GHG quota and can resell it. In all cases, the buyers are the mineral oil companies. Not directly, however, but through an intermediary for practical reasons.

Stromers for the big corporations

It would hardly be practical or efficient for individual EV drivers to sell their emissions directly to an oil company. Numerous platforms are already available for this task, the number of which is constantly growing. The intermediaries buy the GHG quotas from the individual e-car drivers, bundle them and then sell them to the oil companies. For this, they collect a commission from the vehicle owners, which is offset against the payment - usually a low double-digit percentage of the proceeds.

If you are looking for a suitable platform, you will find various offers for private individuals and fleet operators on the Internet. In addition to numerous specialized start-ups, companies from related industries, such as energy companies or sellers of e-car accessories, are also bustling about in the new market. Many car dealerships also want to offer the service to their new car customers in the future. The amount of the premium is independent of the vehicle and the electricity used, but the exact conditions differ in details.

Anyone who makes a fixed price currently receives around 250 euros, whoever plays poker and chooses the future market price receives 400 euros or more in the best case. Alternatively, there are also non-cash prizes such as wall boxes or a certain amount of free charging current. In addition, some intermediaries also offer to donate the money directly - an interesting option for participants who see collecting the payments that actually flow into the state budget as a moral problem.

Registration required everywhere

Most providers also give users the choice between a one-year and a multi-year contract period. However, since prices are likely to rise in the coming years, long-term commitments for e-drivers are not recommended.

If you have decided on one of the numerous platforms, you have to register there. In addition to name, address and bank details, a photo or a scan of the vehicle registration document is required. Charging station operators must transmit the value of the kilowatt hours converted. The platform operator takes care of everything else, such as the confirmation of the GHG quota by the Federal Environment Agency and the sale to a mineral oil company. The money usually ends up in the account automatically after about a month. However, the income is only tax-free up to a limit of 256 euros. Some intermediaries therefore offer a tax-optimized payment that is limited to 255 euros.
