Geneva 2014: Fiat the Jeep shrunk

You stand in Geneva at the Motor Show, see the new little jeep and think: Man, I know this car from somewhere.

That's no wonder, because the smallest Jeep of all time, apart from the original Willys Jeep, is indeed based on a small Fiat. the Fiat 500L. And that's supposed to be a jeep? The critical question must be allowed.

FIAT has shrunk the Jeep, the result: The Renegade

Geneva 2014: With the Renegade, the smallest Jeep is born!

From the origin as Fiat 500L, also known as Fiat Punto, is not much left. With the Renegade, FIAT turned everything upside down and rummaged deep in the bag of tricks. Overall, the small Jeep 16 offers various combinations of engine and transmission options. Four petrol engines, two turbodiesels and a FlexFuel engine (for E85 fuel aka ethanol), plus two manual transmissions, a dual-clutch transmission and an 9 automatic gearbox from ZF.

And because the Jeep has to be successful in the terrain as a Jeep, there is also the Renegade, as already at Jeep Cherokee, a selection of all-wheel drive solutions. Right up to the Trailhawk version with off-road reduction, more ground clearance, more suspension travel and more approach angle. As a Trailhawk, the once cute 500L also gets new dampers from the specialist KONI. These work adaptively and can be adapted to the contrary needs of road and off-road use. In the Trailhawk version, even the smallest Jeep should manage the Rubicon Trail. “I would like to experience that…”

Who does not want to order the Jeep Renegade (project name Jeepster) because of his off-road talent, but is on the styling of the small SUV, gets the 4.23 meter long Renegade also with front-wheel drive. The trunk swallows between 350 and 870 liters.

The Renegade will come to the dealers in the second half of the year 2014, the prices are shrouding FIAT, pardon, Jeep still in silence.
