Largest electric car manufacturer - BYD depends on Tesla

The global e-car market is firmly in the hands of the Chinese and Americans. Among the top 5 of the largest producers, there is only one German manufacturer.

SP-X / Paris. The Chinese manufacturer BYD is the largest electric car producer in the world. In the first quarter, the company 71.504 has sold pure e-mobile and plug-in hybrids, according to statistics from the consulting firm Inovev. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 150 percent. Number two worldwide was Tesla with 63.000 units and an increase of 105 percent, Renault Nissan Mitsubishi came on 60.031 sales and finished third (plus 21 percent).

The Top 5 completed Geely with 34.746 units (plus 109 percent) and BMW with 20.208 vehicles (plus 5 percent). Thus, the big five share almost half (48 percent) of the world market for e-cars. Overall, 538.774 battery mobiles and plug-in hybrids were sold worldwide in the first quarter.
