High used car prices

Anyone looking for a used car has to dig deeper into their pockets than they did a year ago. And the offer is not always abundant either.

Used car prices in Germany continue to rise. The used car price index (AGPI) determined by Autoscout24 shows an average price of 22.424 euros in April, which is 200 euros more than in the previous month. Compared to March 2020, the prices have risen by 1.600 euros. The used car portal sees reasons for the price increases in a short supply of used vehicles and in the popularity of luxury vehicles and classic cars.

The used car portal recorded an average decrease in supply of 3 percent across all segments, with Vans and Young Used vehicles taking the lead with 9 percent each. The smallest decrease of 1 percent was recorded by luxury-class vehicles and sports cars.

With a price increase of 12 percent, classic cars lead the price increase scale. Vehicles aged 10 and over rose in price by 3 to 6 percent in April, young used vehicles by 1 to 2 percent.
