Hyundai i30 - problems with the power steering?

Is the Hyundai i30 the next moose problem child?

Swedish motor journalists from "www.teknikensvarld.se”Found a problem with a Hyundai i30 in a standard moose test and recorded it on video. As described in the corresponding article, the testers drove the Hyundai i30 into the evasive lane at almost 70 km / h, when steering back into the original lane the steering suddenly hardened, it seems as if the servo assistance would fail. As a result, the vehicle basically gets out of control and would drive into oncoming traffic in an uncontrolled manner, or immediately leave the road completely.

The vehicle then remains uncontrollable even at slow speeds, you can see how the driver has problems holding the steering wheel in his hands. Only after the journey has been stopped, the vehicle switched off and restarted, does the servo support function as it should.

The test car is a Hyundai i30 1.6 diesel with automatic transmission and was manufactured in March 2014. A 2013 i30 with manual transmission that had been tested for the first time had had no problems at the time. It has not yet been finally clarified whether there have been any changes that have flowed into the series in the meantime.

Hyundai will have to investigate whether the whole thing is an isolated case and was based on a technical problem with the vehicle being tested. One thing is clear: you don't want to personally experience such a problem in everyday life while maneuvering through an emergency situation.

The executive magazine teknikensvarld.de is also the magazine in which the Mercedes A-Class overturned in the hitherto unknown moose test. Afterwards all A-classes had to be retrofitted with ESP. What will be the consequences in this case, one will have to wait.
