Hyundai Kona also as a hybrid - Another fuel-saving Korean

In addition to Kia, sister brand Hyundai is also expanding its range of electric cars and part-time electric vehicles. The Kona SUV model will be available as a hybrid this summer.

SP-X / Cologne. In the summer of 2019, Hyundai is expanding the drive range for the Kona SUV model with a full hybrid version. The double heart of gasoline and electric motor is already used in the Ioniq Hybrid. In the case of the Kona, the engine mix allows consumption values of around four liters.

While the 1,6 liter Atkinson petrol engine delivers 77 kW / 105 PS and 147 Newton meters of torque, the electric motor contributes 32 kW / 43,5 PS and 170 Newton meters of torque. 104 kW / 141 PS and 265 Newton meters are offered as system outputs. The power is directed to the front wheels via a six-speed dual clutch transmission. An 1,56 kWh lithium-ion battery serves as an energy buffer. With 11,2 seconds for the standard sprint and 160 km / h top speed, the hybrid is not designed for dynamic peaks. The consumption, depending on the rim diameter, varies between 3,9 and 4,3 liters of petrol per 100 kilometer.

Visually, the Kona Hybrid differs from the regular model by a few colored styling details on the outside and inside. The scope of equipment includes an app-based Blue Link infotainment system with a seven-inch display. In addition, the new motorization offers hybrid-specific cockpit information and an eco-driving assistant if the customer orders the optional infotainment system with an 10,3 inch display.

The Kona Hybrid will start in August, Hyundai Germany has not yet announced prices, but the technically related Kia Niro has around 8.000 euros between the E version and the hybrid. The discount compared to the 34.600 Euro expensive Kona Elektro should be similar.
