Interior concept Continental Ambienc3

The interiors of cars will change significantly in the coming years. Continental is presenting some future solutions in classic packaging at IAA .

Old on the outside, futuristic on the inside - this is the motto that automotive suppliers use Continental at the IAA Mobility (until September 12th) the concept vehicle Continental Ambienc3. The one-off based on an old VW T2 bus exemplarily shows several future-oriented interior solutions with which cars become more homely and remain functional.

New furniture

The old T2 interior with three rows of seats has been completely removed. Instead, Continental has clad the gutted Bulli with new materials that create a homely character with friendly colors and natural-looking surfaces together with warm ambient light. The new furniture should meet the demands of driving, working and relaxing in equal measure. In addition to seats, there are also loungers and tables. The interior is divided into work, lounge and drive zones.

Thanks to Staynu technology, the white steering wheel in the Ambienc3 should remain attractive over the long term

The driver's workplace is futuristic and chic. At first glance, switches, buttons and displays are no longer there. The driver's seat and the steering wheel are white and should also remain so in the long term. In this case, the leather substitute Benova Pure was used, which was made dirt-resistant thanks to so-called Staynu technology. If you write on the steering wheel with a ballpoint pen, the ink can be removed with a cleaning agent without leaving any residue. Thanks to Staynu, steering wheels will no longer have to be black in order to remain attractive in the long term. In a good two years, according to Continental, a series vehicle with a corresponding steering wheel should come onto the market.

Hidden technology in the Continental Ambienc3

In contrast, the cockpit of the Ambienc3 is completely black. Initially, no instruments or displays can be seen on the surface called Acella Hylite. Only when the vehicle is started does a large display appear behind it. In the Ambienc3 there are translucent surfaces in many places, behind which displays and switches are only visible when needed. Thanks to this Shy technology, classic switches and buttons will be a thing of the past in the future.

The large cross member in wood look is also worth seeing in the dashboard. The material Skai NatureFeel Artisan Oak was used, which conveys a natural wood impression with a corresponding 3D surface structure. The decors can be laid seamlessly around the body, which at the same time gives the impression of a solid real wood plank. Materials were used throughout the interior that did not require animals to die or trees to be felled, says Continental.

Resolution fits both screens and sound

Further highlights of the Ambienc3 are its side windows with so-called Intelligent Glass Control. This is based on liquid crystal technology that not only allows the panes to be darkened in several stages, but also allows animations. The Ambienc3 is networked, equipped with 360-degree camera technology and equipped with a high-end sound system.

Despite the futuristic interior, the Ambienc3 has retained its original combustion engine. This means that the individual item is even mobile, but not approved for traffic.
