The new edition of the Mercedes SL will be available again with a fabric roof. The Stuttgart-based company has now opened it to allow first insights into the interior.
After aluminum spaceframe and prototypes in the snow, Mercedes is now presenting the interior of the new edition of the announced for 2022 Roadster-Classic SL. Many equipment details known from other current models create a brand-typical ambience with a special twist.
Typical of the current interior fashion of the star brand are, for example, the turbine-like ventilation nozzles, two of which are located on the far outside of the dashboard in the SL and two more flank the central display on the left and right. The position of the freely floating touchscreen in the center console in portrait format with a screen diagonal of 11,9 inches can be changed electrically. Behind the steering wheel there is a digital instrument cluster with a 12,3-inch display, which, however, is not free-standing, but is framed by a scoop to reduce the glare caused by the sun's rays. There will also be an optional head-up display for the SL that shows the vehicle's surroundings in 3D.
For the first time since the R1989, which was built from 2001 to 129, the SL will again have two emergency seats in the rear, which not only serve as storage space, but also allow children to be taken along. The front seats with their headrests integrated into the backrest should be lighter and slimmer than before. Customers can choose between one- or two-tone nappa leather covers with different seam colors. Ambient lighting with 64 different colors allows the color theme to be adapted to suit your mood.
The SL will only be available as an AMG model with performance values that go into the 800 hp range. In addition to eight cylinders, turbochargers and a large displacement, an electric motor should also contribute - there will probably be at least one plug-in hybrid variant. It is also clear that in the future the roadster will no longer have a sheet metal roof, but a fabric roof, and will also be available with all-wheel drive for the first time.
