Jeep sets the luxurySUVs Grand Cherokee revisited. In Europe it will only exist in the future electrified.
After the long version, the standard version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is now celebrating its premiere. Unlike the already well-known seven-seater, the version for five people will also be coming to Germany next year. Exclusively with electrified drive.
New design
The 4,90 meter long Grand Cherokee is visually recognizable as a Jeep at first glance. However, the designers have punched him in a modern interpretation of the typical Jeep style elements. The radiator grille with the seven slots is wider and more compact. The hood and driver's cab of the vehicle are elongated. In the side view, the lowered belt line and large side windows are noticeable. Digital instrument clusters can be found in the solidly furnished interior. Head-up display, ambient lighting and the fifth generation of the Uconnect infotainment system are on board, along with the latest assistance and connectivity systems.
The plug-in hybrid drive celebrates its premiere in the short Grand Cherokee. The 4xe technology combines a 2,0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and provides 276 kW / 375 hp and 637 Nm of torque. A 17 kWh battery serves as the energy storage device, and the electric range should be around 40 kilometers. The manufacturer specifies a consumption of 4,1 liters. In addition, American customers can choose from two conventional engines for propulsion. The basic unit is the well-known 3,6-liter six-cylinder with 213 kW / 290 PS, as an alternative, the 5,7-liter eight-cylinder with 255 kW / 357 PS, which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic.
5 driving modes in the Grand Cherokee
The luxury SUV, which is based on a new platform, can be ordered with the familiar 4 × 4 systems. There is also air suspension that regulates ground clearance and fording depth using adaptive damping. The driver can choose from five terrain modes (auto, sport, rock, snow and mud / sand). As a "Trail Rated", the Grand Cherokee has steel underrun protection plates, an electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle and 18-inch aluminum wheels and a fording depth of up to 61 centimeters.
Prices for the largest Jeep on the German market are not known. In view of the drive and dimensions, they should start above 70.000 euros.
