Hardly any bargains in the chip crisis

The production bottlenecks at New cars also have an impact on the price.

New cars are in short supply. Bargains too. Models that are still available are in demand and are correspondingly expensive: The manufacturers are currently hardly granting discounts, as can be seen from the current edition of the discount index of the Center Automotive Research (CAR) in Duisburg results. In the first half of the year, manufacturers were able to meet demand from stocks, but the experts believe that they have now been exhausted. There will be no supplies as long as the chip crisis lasts.

Anything but a bargain

As a result, the average price for new cars rose by 180 euros or 0,5 percent in August. Young used vehicles are also becoming increasingly scarce, as manufacturers and dealers are currently very reluctant to register themselves. Compared to the previous month, their share has fallen by 1,9 percentage points to 24,1 percent. With some car brands, even short registrations are offered almost at the same terms as new cars.
