Petrol has become much more expensive since the beginning of the year. There are more than two reasons for this.
The Fuel prices at German petrol stations have risen sharply since the beginning of the year. While the liter of super still cost an average of 2020 cents in December 126,54, according to data from Statista it was 160,27 cents in July. The reasons for the jump in prices at the turn of the year include the new 19 percent increase in VAT, as well as the new CO2 price. The further increase does not explain this: The crude oil prices currently have hardly any influence either - they have now fallen, while the development of fuel prices only knows one direction.
How fuel prices could go down
If you want to keep your personal fuel costs under control, you should drive to the petrol pump between 18 p.m. and 19 p.m. and between 20 p.m. and 22 p.m. In addition, a price comparison between the providers is recommended. The ADAC hopes that if all motorists acted this way, this could create competitive pressure on the supplier side and cause prices to fall. In the long term, however, fuel prices are likely to continue to rise worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
