Mercedes electrifies the big V-class

No SUV, no sedan - the next all-electric Mercedes model is a large-capacity van. Derived from the V-class EQV celebrates its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show as a near-series concept car.

How come up to eight adults in classy ambience purely electric in a 400 kilometers distant city? Coming soon in a V-Class: Like the EQC, a mid-size SUV based on the GLC, the big Stromer also carries the new Mercedes-Benz type logic. "EQ" for electrical plus "V" for the gene donor in the normal model program.

A "vehicle concept with a future" is the EQV, stressed Daimler Board member Wilfried Porth and promises the early production launch of the world's first large-capacity sedan in the precious segment. On the front axle, a powerful 150 kW / 204 PS electric motor draws its energy from an 100 kWh lithium-ion battery. According to the new standard, the battery lasts for well 400 kilometers. You can load at a so-called wallbox, a household socket or fast charging station. The latter delivers power in just 15 minutes for another 100 kilometer ride. At the domestic wallbox with 11 kW charging power, it is therefore about ten hours until the 4,90-meter ship can recover fully recovered.

From the outside, the EQV is largely similar to its sister models from the Old World. Chief designer Gorden Wagener calls the front end a distinguishing feature: "The focus is on the radiator grille with chrome trim, an LED light strip as a typical feature of the EQ design and large air intakes." Clear becomes the special in the interior. The MBUX infotainment system, which has meanwhile been introduced in several car models with large monitors instead of classic fittings, only conquers the V-Class with the electric version. The recently presented facelift of the normal V-Class is still with the attached middle monitor of the classic kind.
The modern operating concept of the EQV was supplemented by typical e-displays such as range, energy flow or power saving tips. This includes a navigation that takes into account the current state of charge, a remote control for air conditioning from home, but also an app. with which you can pay the tapped electricity at the charging station.

Of course, the concept vehicle shown in Geneva is peppered with fine accessories. Blue leather look of the instrument panel, complemented by elements in rose gold. A color combination that can also be found in the seats. The basic tones of the interior in black and blue are to provide a relaxed and luxurious atmosphere as in the classy designed home. While the exhibit has six seats in three rows, a seven- or eight-seat seating is also possible at market launch. About the later prices or the date for the series start Mercedes is still silent.
