Mercedes presents the new C-Class [W205]

From the series: The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Presentation - Part 1, the most important facts about the new C-Class. [W205]

Over 2.4 million C-Class vehicles have been sold, and that only since the predecessor was launched in 2007. That explains at first glance how important this new C-Class is for Mercedes-Benz.

With the latest generation, the new C-Class grows beyond itself. Less with the direct size of the vehicle (but also), but above all indirectly with its own positioning and the new quality in the interior. The new C-Class wants to be the best in the class of upper mid-range vehicles, one thing is certain - it impresses with its very own, new value!

Lighter!

Although the C-Class has grown. 9.5 cm in length, 8 centimeters at wheelbase and 4 centimeters at width. Nevertheless, the new C-Class became lighter. At 100 kilograms, the curb weight of the sedan declined. In particular, the aluminum hybrid body has a share of 70 kg.

If the predecessor was still made with 10% aluminum, the lightweight material plays a significantly greater role in the new generation. Up to 50% of the body now consist of the light metal.

Aerodynamic!

Lowering the weight is one part of moving the body through the air with as little resistance as possible, another important point in the fight for the highest possible efficiency. The best in the middle class is the new C 220 BlueTec Eco with air resistance from 0.24!

The lowered air resistance also ensures a minimum of wind noise. The quieter, the more comfortable.

More comfortable!

The new C-Class brings new technology to its class. The new C-Class is optionally available with an air suspension. But even without air suspension, the new four-link front axle will provide a completely new driving impression. For the first time in this class, the damping of the front axle is completely decoupled from the wheel guidance. This turns the C-Class into a small S-Class and impresses with new qualities in driving comfort. The added convenience also includes fine-tuning the noises made by the many little helpers in the new C-Class. Quieter air conditioning fans and also quieter window regulator motors. All corners and edges of the new C-Class have been optimized.

Also a comfort gain: An air conditioner with tunnel detection. Based on GPS data, the new C-Class detects the entrance to a tunnel and closes the recirculation damper. Thus, the bad air in the tunnel remains in the tunnel and does not get into the vehicle interior.

Dynamic!

The new front axle allows higher cornering forces for the wheel and thus increases the agility of the vehicle. Four-link front axle and 5 handlebar rear axle. Mercedes-Benz has made enormous efforts on the chassis side of the new C-Class. A first test drive in the coming year will show how successful this was.

Economical!

3.9 liter of diesel on 100 kilometers. Mercedes-Benz is already putting the values of the diesel hybrid on the agenda for the presentation of the new model series. The C 300 BlueTec is a diesel hybrid with a relatively small battery and a very manageable electric motor. However, the 204 PS Diesel and 27 PS electric motors are expected to provide best-in-class NEDC value. Later, a plug-in hybrid will follow, which will need significantly less on the NEDC scale.

But the three other engines available for market launch also impress with their efficiency. The C180 basic gasoline engine with the 1.6 liter and 156 PS strong four-cylinder is specified with 5.0 liter on 100 km. The most powerful engine to launch the new C-Class is the C200 petrol engine with 184 PS and 300 Nm. For this aggregate Mercedes specifies a consumption value of 5.3 liters on 100 km.

Smarter!

With the new C-Class, Mercedes-Benz is democratizing - once again - some technical features that were previously reserved for the upper and luxury classes. Mercedes-Benz calls these systems "Intelligent Drive”And we already know some of it from the S-Class and the E-Class. What is being used for the first time in a Mercedes-Benz with the C-Class, however, is the “Head-Up-Display” with the help of which the most important information is displayed directly on the windshield and in front of the driver's eyes.

The revised COMAND Online System is now able to display its own content on a modern tablet-quality display. Added to this are the Mercedes-Benz apps, a Wi-Fi hotspot and, of course, the option of connecting the mobile phone via Bluetooth.
