Mitsubishi eX Concept | Tokyo 2015

Compact SUVs sell like sliced bread and even larger SUVs become highly efficient companions with intelligent plug-in hybrid technology. Even without diesel engines! With the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Mitsubishi Motors has achieved real PHEV sales success in Germany. Mitsubishi will present the “eX Concept” at the Tokyo Motor Show. In terms of size and design, the eX concept looks like an ASX successor.

400 km electric - in a compact SUV!

The Tokyo Motor Show starts on October 28th and at the Mitsubishi stand you will get a look into the very near future of Mitsubishi with the eX concept. The eX is similar in size (4.24 meters long) to the current Mitsubishi ASX, but the show car version has a “TwinMotor” electric drive with two 95 hp electric motors. This corresponds in a very similar way to the electric motors of the Outlander PHEV, which has already become a bestseller. Unlike the plug-in hybrid, the eX-Concept will come onto the market purely as an electric SUV.

Tesla Model X opponents in avant-garde and “cheaper”

The two 70 kW electric motors are powered by a 45 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This corresponds to 3.7 times the size of the Outlander PHEV battery and should be sufficient for a range of 185 km in reality. However, Mitsubishi specifies a range of 400 km for the concept vehicle. Until then, the layout of the batteries and the entire package will probably change a bit.

However, the eX Concept definitely shows us what an ASX successor with Mitsubishi's new “Shield face” could look like. And that looks very attractive.
