New sporty Audi models - S for diesel

The diesel is dead, long live the diesel: At Audi, auto-igniters are now taking over the sports department.

At the end of May, Audi launched the S models of the A6, A7 series; A5, A4 and Q5 in the showrooms of the dealers, targeting performance-hungry frequent drivers. The new top models in Germany and Europe no longer drive with petrol engines as before, but with diesel engines. In spite of the difficulties due to the diesel scandal that is indebted to Audi here, Audi continues to rely on the pulling power and economy and the resulting lower CO2 emissions from the diesel engines.

The 3,0-liter TDI delivers in S6, S6 Avant and in the S7 Sportback 257 kW / 349 PS

Unlike the pioneer of the new S-strategy, the SQ7, the business and mid-range vehicles do not use eight-cylinder engines but six-cylinder engines. The 3,0-liter TDI delivers in S6, S6 Avant and in the S7 Sportback 257 kW / 349 PS. S4, S4 Avant, S5, S5 Sportback and SQ5 drivers must be content with a bit less performance. Here comes the engine on 255 kW / 347 PS. The power transmission takes place via an eight-speed automatic, all-wheel is always part of the standard. Top speed is 250 km / h on all models.

To prevent turbocharging, the V6 unit has an electric compressor in addition to the conventional exhaust gas turbocharger, which will break in if the exhaust-powered supercharger does not yet have enough pressure. The power supply of the compressor ensures an additional 48-volt on-board system. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is available between 2.500 and 3.100 rpm. The 48 Volt system is also used to operate a belt starter generator. This allows a start-stop system with sail function and a recuperation. The consumption advantage should amount to up to 0,4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometer. Audi specifies values between 6,2 and 6,8 for the S models. The standard print is handled in times from 4,8 to 5,1 seconds.

Anyone interested in an S model must invest at least 62.600 or 64.200 Euro for S4 and S4 Avant. From 65.300 Euro the S5 models and from 67.750 Euro the SQ5 are in the price list. For S6 76.500 Euro and for S6 Avant 79.000 Euro are due. From 82.750 Euro is the S7 Sportback to have. Although the models are well equipped, among others with special alloy wheels, a striking front bumper, mirror housings in aluminum look, aluminum inlays, sports seats and depending on the model (S6 and S7) with four-zone air conditioning, virtual cockpit and navigation, there are still many additional cost options. These include sports differential, all-wheel steering, air suspension or ceramic brakes.
