New Audi A8 L - twelve-cylinder with luxury, dynamics, efficiency and 500 hp

The large A8 sedan represents the “Vorsprung durch Technik” that Audi possesses. The brand is now presenting its flagship in the new top version: the long-wheelbase A8 L sets standards for luxury, dynamics and efficiency. It will be launched in autumn 2010 with five engines, including the superior twelve-cylinder with 368 kW (500 hp).

The Audi A8 L is a large, representative luxury sedan. In length and wheelbase it has grown by 13 centimeters compared to the normal version, it now measures 5,27 meters. The increase benefits the passengers in the rear in full. Features such as a folding table and a cool box make the stay even more pleasant. The reclining seat with an electrically adjustable footrest is the top variant.

The Audi A8 L is the world's first automobile that can be supplied with an integrated WiFi hotspot; a UMTS module establishes the connection to the Internet. Audi offers many technical features in the field of multimedia. They extend to the high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system and include state-of-the-art online services.

The MMI navigation plus is closely networked with the assistance and safety systems in the new Audi A8 L. It reads the course of the route in advance and makes the data available to the control units for the automatic transmission, the headlights and the further developed adaptive cruise control with stop & go function.

With their increased intelligence, these systems can recognize complex scenarios and support the driver with foresight. In many cases, the new Audi pre sense safety system can reduce accidents and their consequences. The night vision assistant with the marking of detected pedestrians and the speed limit display also increase safety and comfort when driving.

The body of the A8 L is made of aluminum using the Audi Space Frame (ASF) construction method and weighs around 40 percent less than a comparable steel structure. On request, Audi can supply the LED headlights, which implement all lighting functions with light-emitting diodes (standard on the W12). They signify a revolution in the history of lighting technology, both technically and optically.

The new A8 L will be launched with five engines, two TDI and three FSI petrol engines. All units have increased power and torque, their consumption has fallen by up to 22 percent. Responsible for this are the efficiency technologies from Audi such as the recuperation system and the innovative thermal management.

The engine range starts with two three-liter V6, a TDI with 184 kW (250 hp) and a TFSI with 213 kW (290 hp). The two V8s each have a displacement of 4,2 liters – the TDI delivers 258 kW (350 hp), the FSI 273 kW (372 hp). At the top of the range is the W12, which delivers 6,3 kW (368 hp) from a displacement of 500 liters.
