New car registrations in April

E-mobiles are on the rise, as are SUVs. And the statistics are deceptive, at least compared to April 2020.

In April, 229.650 cars were registered in Germany. This corresponds to an increase of 90 percent compared to the same month last year. In April 2020, however, due to the first corona lockdown, car dealers and registration offices were also closed, which distorts the result. In the first four months, the registration statistics show 886.102 newly registered cars, an increase of 7,8 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. The current April numbers are 26 percent below the registration number of April 2019, reports the Association of the Automotive Industry.

Most of the approvals (24,4%) were registered SUV. They were clearly ahead of the Compact vehicles (17,8%) and small car (14,2%).

Under the drives were those gasoline with 90.072 units in front. This corresponds to a share of 39,2 percent. Diesel came with 50.200 units to 21,9 percent. A good every tenth car had a battery-electric drive (10,4%, 23.816 units). Plug-in hybrids achieve a share of 26.988 percent with 11,8 new registrations. Vehicles with a plug connection thus account for more than a fifth of new registrations.
The average CO2 emissions of newly registered cars fell by 16,3 percent and amounted to 126,4 g / km.
