Mercedes prepares the market launch of the new SL. New Erlkönig photos should now keep the tension on the new old brand icon high.
Athletes instead of cruisers: In the new generation, the Mercedes SL wants to shed its recently too little sporty image and appear as a luxurious dynamic. The roadster will only be available as an AMG model and with performance values that go into the 800 hp range. In addition to eight cylinders, turbochargers and a large displacement, an electric motor should also contribute - there will probably be at least one plug-in hybrid variant.
It has now also been officially confirmed that the new edition of the classic will come as a 2 + 2-seater with a fabric roof and will also be available with all-wheel drive for the first time. The market launch will probably not take place until the beginning of 2022.
The youngest descendants of the classic 50s SL recently appeared a bit sluggish and unloved. Also because with the SLS and most recently with the AMG GT they had two much more exciting competitors in front of their noses. Even the S-Class Coupé, which has now been discontinued, contributed to pushing the former brand icon to the edge of the brand's convertible portfolio.
