New green petrol arrives at the petrol station

A new petrol with an increased proportion of eco-fuel is now arriving at the petrol station. Its CO2 balance should be significantly better than that of purely fossil fuel.

Shell is bringing a new petrol with an improved CO2 balance to the pump in the course of the year. 33 percent of the super gasoline developed jointly with Bosch and VW is said to come from non-fossil sources and is offered under the name “Blue Gasoline”. According to the manufacturers, the CO2 savings compared to conventional fuel are 20 percent. The price for the new type of fuel should be at the level of the premium super fuel "V Power", it is compatible with all engines that can also fill up with E10.

The developers achieve an improvement in the CO2 balance by adding certified ethanol and naphtha. The latter falls, among other things, as waste material in paper production. A total of 33 percent of the Blue Gasoline should consist of renewable components. With the R33 diesel "Blue Diesel", the three companies already have a corresponding diesel fuel in their product range, which is partly made from old cooking oil. Both alternative fuels are intended to help reduce CO2 emissions in traffic and, above all, to make existing vehicles less harmful to the climate. The blue fuels are not to be confused with the so-called e-fuels, which are completely synthetic and are produced with the help of electricity generated from renewable sources.
