New record - Audi delivers 652.950 vehicles in the first half of the year

In the first half of 2011, AUDI AG delivered more than 652.950 cars to its customers worldwide. That is 17,7 percent more than in the same period in 2010. Above all, demand for the SUV models increased significantly; at the same time, the Audi A1 and the A8 brought additional growth. From January to June, sales figures in Europe rose by 13,5 percent to around 382.850 cars.

New Audi record

The main drivers of growth were the Audi A1 and the new generation of the A8, which has continuously gained market share since its market launch at the beginning of last year, as well as the Audi A1. But the brand also significantly expanded its presence in the luxury class with the Audi Q7: In Europe, sales of Audi's large sports utility vehicle rose by 23,5 percent.

Significant growth was evident in the German market during this period: With 125.091 cars, AUDI AG sold 15,7 percent more cars than in the same period of the previous year – thanks to the new A1, the A7 and strong growth in the A6.

In France, sales rose by 26,1 percent and in the highly design-oriented regions of Great Britain (plus 11,7 percent) and Scandinavia. Here the sales figures climbed significantly - with an increase of 19,3 percent to 10.423 cars in Sweden, 28,7 percent to 4.310 cars in Norway, 29,3 percent to 3.898 cars in Finland and 30,2 percent to 3.678 cars in Denmark. Demand for the Audi models from the Ingolstadt company also rose in Eastern Europe – in Russia by around 24,1 percent to 11.757 units.

The A8 was best received in the US.

In the USA, Audi increased sales by 15,4 percent to 55.909 cars in the first half of the year. The brand's new flagship, the A8, was also well received here. In addition, the SUVs from Audi recorded a significant increase: the Q5 by 14,2 percent, the Q7 by as much as 41,2 percent.

The development in Asia was once again dominated by rising sales figures in China, the largest market. Audi sold 140.699 cars here in the first half of the year, 28 percent more than in the first six months of 2010 and significantly more than in the German home market. The mid-range models showed noticeable growth: the upper class remained dominant – with 54.529 units, the Audi A6 is by far the best-selling model. However, the Audi Q5 almost doubled its sales to 97,4 percent, and sales of the A4 also increased by a further 34,2 percent.

India, as the second representative of the markets in Asia, is increasingly developing into an important market for Audi. With 2.802 automobiles sold over the first six months - a growth rate of 100,1 percent - India was well ahead of the most important growth markets in America, Brazil (2.182 cars, up 47,0 percent) and Argentina (2.657 cars, up 29,5 percent) .
