German drivers like it subtle: they leave theirs New cars preferably paint gray or black. The two paint colors were again in 2015 in the statistics of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), gray / silver with a share of 29 percent before black (27%). White is now close with 19 percent.
That means: three quarters of all cars are painted in a non-color or silver / gray. Admittedly, against the background that two thirds of the cars are approved by commercial and therefore especially interested in the resale value, the supposed lack of imagination of German car buyers is somewhat put into perspective. But it also depends on the vehicle brand and gender of the owner what color the car is.
Classic black drivers, for example, sit in Audi and BMW (black share 36 and 38% respectively), but most of Porsche's cars were also ordered in the non-color in 2015 (45%). Most VW, however, were like most Mercedes' painted silver or gray (35% each). Other colors dominated other colors: Last year, most newly registered Dacia were blue (31%), at Toyota significantly more white (27%) rolled off the yard than gray or black cars and at Mazda the predominant color was even red ( 24%).
Classic color schemes, on the other hand, are no longer particularly clear: after all, 26 percent of Alfa Romeos were painted red last year - the color of the Italian racing teams - but more Alfas were registered in black. And Jaguar - actually especially beautiful in British Racing Green - sold more cars in red in Germany last year than with a green exterior (4%).
Whether you drive a colorful car or not obviously also depends on your gender, at least this is what the KBA statistics suggest: the female owners have consistently approved more colored vehicles than the overall cut. If six percent of all vehicles are painted red, every tenth car in female owners shines in the color of love. The proportion of yellow cars is 1,5 percent overall, and two percent for women. Correspondingly, fewer women than owners allow a car in silver / gray or black (23% each).
