News: KBA warns - Critical steering spare parts at Opel Corsa and Adam

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) warns of possible breaks in the intermediate steering shafts Opel Adam and Corsa. The intermediate steering shafts with the spare part numbers 13434280 (RHD) and 13365907 (LHD) have been made from a non-approved material in the spare parts trade and may have been installed in as yet unidentifiable vehicles. In the worst case, the steering intermediate shaft may break, which would result in the vehicle being unable to steer.

All variants of the Opel Adam and the Opel Corsa Type D (years of construction 2006 - 2014), for which the steering has been repaired since February 2014, may be affected. Opel asks all owners of such vehicles to go to an authorized workshop as soon as possible to check the steering intermediate shaft. The necessary test takes around 10 minutes, and a possible replacement of the steering intermediate shaft takes around 30 minutes.

According to the KBA, the spare part 13434280 (RHD) could have reached the workshops between March 22, 2014 and September 24, 2014 and the part 13365907 (LHD) from February 6 to September 24, 2014. The parts were probably still sold afterwards.

The KBA and Opel are already carrying out a safety recall on the vehicles where it is known that a corresponding steering intermediate shaft could have been installed as part of a repair. Vehicles that are part of this current recall and have been checked are not affected by this warning because the vehicle owners have been informed in writing.

The whereabouts of some intermediate steering shafts that have reached the spare parts trade, however, has not yet been clarified. The affected intermediate steering shaft can be read from the production code on the lower universal joint of the component. Parts with the NOK code 20E4 or 20K3 must be replaced.
