Mini wants to put on a roadster again. The model for the open two-seater planned for 2019 is, according to the British magazine "Autocar", the Superleggera study from 2014. The current front-wheel drive platform is used as a technical basis, which is also used by the new Mini and the BMW X1. The range of engines will also be similar. In addition, there will be a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive and more than 200 hp, for which the drive from the BMW i8 sports car is the inspiration.
The new roadster should not have much in common with its predecessor. While the first generation, which had already been discontinued after three years of construction, was a version of the mini convertible that was cut in terms of space and was more clumsy in design, the second edition is to become a serious open sports car. As a competitor, the British keep an eye on the Mazda MX-5.
