News: Mitsubishi Outlander - Refined in detail

Almost three years after his debut in Germany receives the Mitsubishi Outlander a technical refresher. The mid-range SUV is also the first vehicle to implement the specifications of the new "Dynamic Shield" design concept.

Both the conventionally powered versions and the plug-in hybrid that has only been available in Germany for around a year now come with a more dynamic front design. Depending on the model and features, LED headlights, LED taillights and 18-inch alloy wheels are now used. The part-time Stromer now falls on in side-by-side trim with chrome inserts and looks fancier. The five- or seven-seater, which can be ordered with either a diesel or petrol engine, gives a somewhat more robust impression thanks to a new front apron and black fender flares. The overall proportion is now somewhat lower and at the same time makes the vehicle appear wider.

The interior was also refreshed. More contoured front seats, a redesigned center console and a navigation system with an optimized menu structure and improved touchscreen now provide more comfort. The plug-in hybrid also has a driving mode display as well as selection buttons for charging the battery and activating the energy-saving driving program.

The engines have also been optimized and their efficiency improved. Both the 2,0-liter gasoline engine and the 2,2-liter diesel engine now meet the Euro 6 emissions standard. Both engines produce 110 kW / 150 PS. Depending on the model variant, the Outlander with front or four-wheel drive is available. The petrol engine is combined in the front-wheel drive variant with a manual five-speed manual transmission. The all-wheel-drive version works with a new continuously variable CVT transmission. The diesel can be ordered with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The plug-in Hybrid Outlander continues to rely on the combination of electric four-wheel drive system and hybrid drive. On the front axle act an 2,0-l petrol engine with 89 kW / 121 PS as well as an 60 kW / 82 PS strong electric motor. A rear electric motor with 60 kW / 82 PS complements the drive train. The 12 kWh strong lithium-ion battery is located under the floor between the axes. Their capacity allows up to 52 kilometers of purely electric driving. Through the revision of the electric drive components and a re-tuned engine control, the efficiency has been improved. The consumption in the combined cycle is 1,8 liters and 13,4 kWh, the CO2 output is only 42 g / km. That is two grams less than before.

Mitsubishi has also expanded the range of assistants for the plug-in hybrid. For example, the Unintended Acceleration Mitigation System (UMS) warns of obstacles up to four meters in front of or behind the vehicle when driving up to a speed of 10 km / h. In addition, a new 360 degree camera facilitates maneuvering and parking maneuvers in tight spaces.

The revised models will be available from dealers from the end of September. The basic version costs from 23.990 Euro, the plug-in hybrid starts at 39.990 Euro. As before, Mitsubishi offers a five-year manufacturer's warranty (up to 100.000 kilometers).
