In addition to the classic fabric roof, it will be used for Mazda MX-5 in the new generation also give a hardtop again. The second model variant could already come onto the market in autumn 2016, around a year after the fourth generation of the roadster with a classic fabric roof was launched.
The current model is already available with a foldable plastic hardtop for a surcharge of 1.500 euros. Around 50 percent of German customers chose this all-weather version of the two-seater. And the firm roof is also in demand in Japan.
It is not known whether the hardtop variant will also be available for the Fiat 124 Spider. The sister model of the MX-5 starts in 2016, uses some of the same technology, but is supposed to stand out visually from its Japanese relative. Fiat also goes its own way when it comes to engines and instead of the naturally aspirated Mazda engines with 131 and 160 hp, it offers its 1,4-liter turbo gasoline engines with up to 125 kW / 170 hp.
