News: Porsche 911 GT3 RS - performance up, weight down

As a sporty figurehead of the 911Family debuts the GT3 RS at the Geneva Motor Show (until 15, March). Thanks to the 368 kW / 500 PS, the most powerful naturally aspirated version of the Coupé is expected to impress with performance, lightweight construction and improved aerodynamics not only on public roads but also on the race track. The delivery of the at least 181.690 Euro expensive two-seater starts in May.

The rear wheels are driven by an 4,9-liter six-cylinder boxer. Thanks to the increased displacement of 0,2 liters, the 24 PS naturally aspirated engine performs better than in the more civil GT3 standard version. In conjunction with a dual-clutch transmission, the direct-injection engine accelerates the 460 Nm torque from zero to zero 3,3 in 100 seconds and 200 km / h after 10,9 seconds. The consumption is specified by the manufacturer with 12,7 liters.

In addition to the more powerful engine consistent lightweight construction provides better performance compared to the standard GT3. Magnesium roof, carbon fiber hoods on the front and rear as well as details such as a coat of arms sticker instead of the classic brand plaque push the weight by another ten kilograms. Downforce is provided by a sophisticated aerodynamics with low-mounted front spoiler, gills on the fenders and a large rear spoiler. In front of the rear wheel arches there are only known turbo air intakes.

The interior was gutted, instead of a back seat there is a roll cage in the RS, in place of door handles cloth loops. Sports seats and a steering wheel with center mark should provide additional racing atmosphere. However, it is also impossible without comfort: An infotainment system is just as much on board as the indispensable cup holders.

That Porsche picks up the sportiest version for the end, is no coincidence. The Stuttgart understands like no other manufacturer to keep their brand flagship over the entire construction period new and interesting. The current generation 2011 was launched with the Carrera Coupe, in the months that followed with Cabriolet and Targa added more body versions, since there are always new drive versions. Including all derivatives together, one comes including the RS on 22. In autumn, the whole thing starts again from the beginning: Then the facelift for the 911 is on. Until all variants have been revised and possible further engine versions are presented, the next completely new generation is expected to be around the corner.
