With the end of the Phaeton in the spring of 2016, the V8 engine actually had its day at VW. But now the powerful machine is celebrating its comeback in a modernized form.
At the Geneva Motor Show (7 until 17 in March) VW can flex its muscles. In addition to the T-Roc R, the Touareg V8 TDI, another powerhouse, is celebrating its world premiere as a near-series study. The eight-stroke, which will be launched at the end of May, will be the brand's most powerful model.
The turbocharged 4,0-liter engine provides 310 kW / 421 horsepower and 900 Newton meters of torque, allowing for a sprint time from zero to 100 in 4,9 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. A consumption value of the according to the emission standard Euro 6d Temp certified engine does not call VW yet, since the homologation is not finalisiert.
Compared to the previous V6 models, the new V8 will offer upgraded standard equipment. There are 19-inch wheels, air suspension, an electric tailgate, comfort seats, stainless steel pedals and the “Light & Sight” package. The Wolfsburg-based company will probably only announce the price for the new V8 in Geneva. Compared to the V58.000 TDI, which costs around 6 euros, a significant surcharge is to be expected.
