News: Renault Scénic - French van sense

A van: not exactly what you would call a “dream car”. Compact vans should be one thing above all: practical. Bringing the children to school, putting away the weekly shopping, taking away the garden waste and being as comfortable as possible on the go, these are the classic virtues. Now the French are considered to be the founders of the compact van class and unveiled the first Renault Scénic in 1996, which was still under the name “Mégane Scénic”. A “great box” that was a worthy successor to the R4. But now the latest model comes to the fore in Geneva.

The R4 was something like the founder of the practical and affordable space saver. Then the first Espace came on the market and brought the optimal use of space into the modern age. But in the course of time the van grew into a giant and was simply too big for many. The French developed the first compact van, the Renault Mégane Scénic. The comrades-in-arms followed suit - as always as the last VW - and ultimately built better variants, such as the very successful one VW Touran.
Now the fourth generation is presented in Geneva, which may be considered a logical consequence, after all the Scénic is based on the Mégane, which was launched last fall. The Scénic compact van is extremely pleasing and wants to stand out from its predecessors with its completely new silhouette. The design of the lower window line, which slopes down towards the B-pillar and then rises dynamically towards the rear, stands out in particular. At the front, a confidently large “rhombus” - this is the Renault's trademark - adorns the radiator grille, while the headlights look grim and now shine with full LED technology. The highlight is the three-part panoramic windscreen, which is based on the Espace and should provide a good overview.

Like the newest Renault Espace shows, the ground clearance also increases somewhat with the new Scénic and creates a light crossover character, as it is modern today. The rear overhang has been shortened, which results in a stockier appearance. The widened track also fits in with this, with the aim of creating a better space.
