Mercedes plans luxury group

Mercedes combines its particularly noble cars in a luxury group. In addition to two obvious sub-brands, there is also a third model series, somewhat surprisingly.

Maybach, AMG and the G-Class are to form their own luxury group in the Daimler Group in the future. The automaker wants to combine the three brands in order to reduce costs, especially in marketing, as the industry newspaper "Automobilwoche" reports. Accordingly, there could already be a joint appearance of the three Mercedes offshoots at the IAA in Munich. The high-margin brand trio is a central component of the Group's luxury strategy, which in future intends to concentrate in particular on the profitable high-price segments.

Elaborately refined Mercedes models are now sold under the formerly independent Maybach brand, including the S and GLS class vehicles, which are already luxurious per se. AMG, on the other hand, is responsible for performance-enhanced sports models across the entire model range. In both cases, however, the cars continue to drive with the familiar star logo. The Mercedes G-Class is apparently new to this sub-brand network in the future. The angular luxury off-road vehicle is optically and technically increasingly falling out of the crossover-centered Mercedes range, so that it does not seem illogical to emphasize this special position.
