Nissan Leaf as hearse - The last trip is electric

With a clear conscience also for the last rest: e-car fans and eco-activists in the UK now have an electrically powered hearse available. The funeral home “Leverton and Sons” offers a funeral home that has been converted to a hearse Nissan Leaf on.

The alternative means of transport was developed and built by the "Brahms Electric Hearses" company, founded in 2011. The electrically extendable storage area for the coffin occupies the entire left side of the vehicle - from the dashboard to the tailgate. The doors of the front passenger and the person behind him were replaced by a transparent plastic surface that allows a view of the vehicle. According to the company, customers choose the electric hearse not only for ecological but also for aesthetic reasons.

The entire “passenger side” is glazed

The journey to cemeteries is available within a radius of around 135 kilometers around London - i.e. within the range of the scooter. For other routes, "Leverton and Sons" recommend their classic Daimler hearse. But that comes more expensive: While the ride in the Leaf is available from 300 pounds (350 euros), 315 euros (366 euros) are due for the converted luxury sedan. If you want it to be classic and also ecologically correct, book a team of horses for 1.200 pounds (1.400 euros).

The Leaf hearse would have no chance in Germany. The regulation for the implementation of the funeral law stipulates that the hold of the hearse must be enclosed, lockable and separate from the driver's compartment. In the converted Nissan, there would not be enough space for this. (Holger Holzer / SP-X)
