Only against the car in theory

Most Germans would like fewer cars in the cities. But they don't believe in city tolls and the like.

Germans want less traffic in the cities, but avoiding traffic should not cost money. According to a survey by the consultancy KfW, 66 percent of German households are in favor of reducing traffic, but only 26 percent of those questioned are warming to higher parking fees. A city toll is only approved by 23 percent. However, the level of agreement increases with the traffic load of the survey participants: Among the households with severe perceived impairment, 42 percent are in favor of a toll in the city center.
