Peugeot 308 SW - More quality, more car

The official premiere of the new compact station wagon will be in Geneva at the Motor Show. Already yesterday, Peugeot presented the first photos and information about the new Peugeot 308 station wagon, classically called SW.

Peugeot 308 SW - more elegantly combined

Even the hatchback version of the Peugeot 308 could convince me. The French have presented a compact, took leave of design extravaganza and instead of a thick lip, the lion brand has the new French Golf an extensive tutorial I missed quality, workmanship and feel.

The interior of the Peugeot 308 could have been mounted in Wolfsburg! It does not rattle, it does not rattle anything and the surfaces radiate a dignified build quality.

So completely off my expectations of a French automobile.

And then the French dare to take an enormous step further. For the first time in the compact car class, I feel this feeling of “novelty”, a real, clever, new - but above all “courageous concept”.

A quote from my first test for the new Peugeot 308.

With the station wagon, the French are now going the same way. Over a length of 4.58 meters stretches a flat (1.47 meter) high body. The new Peugeot 308 SW looks stretched and radiates cool nonchalance.

With 610 dm³ trunk volume, the new Peugeot 308 SW clearly trumps the VW Golf 7 Estate with 5 liters and other competitors in its class. There are clear forms present and the load compartment looks tidy and suitable for everyday use. The split rear seat can be folded down from the trunk with just one hand. The result is a flat cargo bed.

Like the sedan, the new Peugeot 308 SW is based on the modular platform EMP2, which stands for less weight and more driving dynamics in the PSA Group. So the new Peugeot 308 SW is a total of 140 kg lighter than its predecessor.

For the market launch petrol and diesel engines are offered according to the Euro-6 standard. A particularly low emission BlueHDi version (only 85 g CO2 per kilometer) sets a new benchmark in this segment.

If the Peugeot 308 SW can convince with just as much attention to detail as the Peugeot 308 as a compact - then Peugeot takes a real leap in quality.

The new Peugeot 308 SW obtains its drive units from the French plants in Trémery and Douvrin and will roll off the assembly line in Sochaux. World premiere is in Geneva - in March 2014
