Plug-in hybrids

Plug-in hybrids must be able to drive at least 60 kilometers purely electrically in future. Otherwise there is no more money from the state.

Final spurt in subsidies for plug-in hybrids: There will probably be none for numerous popular models from next year E-car bonus more. The background to this is a tightening of the funding guidelines. The deadline is the day of delivery, not the time of the order.

In the future, plug-in hybrids will have to be even more electric

According to a list by the comparison portal “Carwow”, the candidates for deletion include plug-in hybrid versions of the Audi Q8, Volvo XC90 and VW Touareg, as they do not offer the required electric range. Currently the minimum value is 40 kilometers, from 2022 it will have to be 60 kilometers. 2025 kilometers are planned from 80. Alternatively, the maximum CO2 emissions must be limited to 50 grams per kilometer. Funding of up to 6.750 euros is only granted if at least one of the two conditions is met.

Similar limit values for subsidies or other concessions also exist in other EU countries. The car manufacturers have developed the first generation of their plug-in hybrids to meet these requirements; newer models have already adapted to the stricter regulations. What happens to the vehicles that are no longer eligible for funding from next year depends on the individual case. The manufacturers can let them run unchanged and waive the subsidy or increase the battery capacity and thus the range. At least for some of the vehicles, this should be technically possible without any major problems.
