Porsche 718 soon only electric

Porsche electrifies its sports cars. In three years at the latest, a battery-powered Porsche 718 will celebrate its premiere.

Porsche want the sports car 718 offer exclusively with electric drive from the middle of the decade. This was announced by company boss Oliver Blume at the balance sheet press conference. He does not name any technical details, but the coupe and convertible are likely to be based on the new PPE platform that the Stuttgart-based company developed together with Audi. Thanks to the 800 volt battery system, it offers fast power delivery and short charging times. The range should be in the range of 400 to 500 kilometers.

SUV more successful than the Porsche 718

Blume rates Porsche's e-strategy as successful so far. Last year, 42.296 customers worldwide chose the Taycan, the brand’s only electric model to date. The sedan thus overtook the conventional 911 sports car. However, the Cayenne and Macan SUV models were the most successful with over 80.000 sales each. The latter also celebrates its premiere as an electric car at the end of the year and is the brand's first model on the PPE platform. By 2030, more than 80 percent of all Porsche vehicles are to be delivered fully electric.
