Porsche at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 - Open into spring

Porsche are exciting times in the house: SUV coupe and electric model should come this year. In Geneva, however, the carmaker is cleaning out his classic sports car side.

Porsche are exciting times into the house: In the future, Porsche also wants to interfere with a Cayenne coupe in the segment of sleek SUV and later in the year, the all-electric Taycan is no less than an era in Zuffenhausen usher in; Electricity has so far been used only to support the combustor. But: The two important news adorn themselves something and do not dare yet in the limelight. At the Geneva Motor Show, the sports car manufacturer is therefore limited to reminiscing on the one hand. After all, the then young brand introduced itself here before 70 years ago. On the other hand, Porsche demonstrates its original core competence at this year's salon: classic sports cars. The 911 has just been completely redone at the start and now the carmaker begins to spread the usual variant fan. First offshoot and star of the Porsche booth: The Cabriolet.

Star of the Porsche booth in Geneva: The 911 Cabriolet

Porsche has already published pictures of it some time ago, but even without this appetizer the surprise at Lac Léman would not have been much. As usual, the design team around Michael Mauer leaned the open-air version as close as possible to the coupe. And of course the engineers have stayed true to the cloth cap: an open 911 with a steel roof, that simply does not fit. The hood with Magensium flat arch disappears behind the seats in twelve seconds at the touch of a button and can be stretched over the passenger's heads just as quickly. The biggest advantage of the convertible - apart from the wind around the nose and some color on the face: The powerful roaring boxer in the rear penetrates even better to the ear. Although the Porsche engines also had to let up and sound not least since the switch to turbo technology not so heartbreaking. But the Porsche disciples had to go through a similar break when they said goodbye to the air-cooled engine, and like them, they will be able to cope with the latest sound change.

Sound and power source is a 3,0-liter six-cylinder, which is initially available only in the S-version with 331 kW / 450 PS. Currently, customers can only determine the type of drive - rear-wheel drive starts the open penalty at 134.400 Euro, the four-wheel drive model 4S costs just under 8.000 Euro more. From the factory, all 911 convertibles feature the super-fast new dual-clutch transmission, which juggles as precisely as any other on the market with the eight gear ratios. In the fastest case, the convertible spurts in 3,6 seconds on Tempo 100, and thus a tenth slower than the coupe; the Vmax is at 306 km / h. New: For the first time, the convertible with sports suspension and adaptive dampers is also available.

For almost half of the convertible tariff is the second novelty exhibited by Porsche in Geneva. However, 718 Cayman and Boxster in the T version are no longer hot as the two Touring models were already ready for the first exit. The principle behind it: maximum driving pleasure with the base engine. While under the hood of the mid-engine athletes so only the 220 kW / 300 PS works strong four-cylinder boxer, otherwise provide for the entry-level sports suspension not available with adaptive dampers and sports Chrono package, torque vectoring on the driven rear axle and active gearbox bearings for increased Transverse dynamics and a plus in driving pleasure. To compensate for the 20 extra kilograms of extras, the door handles are replaced by light loops and the infotainment system and speakers are missing from the factory - the latter can be ordered free of charge again, which most buyers will need. After all, the saved ten pounds really do not matter.
