E-car bestsellers in Europe - a Frenchman drives way ahead

The Renault Zoe was the best-selling electric car in Europe in 2016. A total of 21.377 units were newly registered last year, according to the EU market observation agency EAFO. Compared to the previous year, this means an increase of 15 percent. The small Frenchman's market share is 10 percent. The Nissan Leaf follows closely behind with 18.557 units (up 21 percent) and a market share of 9 percent. The compact car thus swapped places with the second Tesla S of the previous year, which after a minus of 26 percent to 12.353 units only came third (market share: 6 percent)

The California luxury sedan suffered from increasing competition; So there is competition from the in-house SUV Model X as well as with models such as the plug-in hybrid model Mercedes 350e printing from the outside. Germany's bestseller BMW i3 came fourth with 9.726 new registrations (up 56 percent), while the VW E-Golf came fifth despite a 40 percent decline with 6.666 units.
