Almost exactly 15 years to the month after the start of production, the Porsche Boxster and the Porsche Cayman have passed the impressive mark of 300000 sports cars built. The Porsche Boxter and Porsche Cayman are popular and, for example, have ranked among the top ten vehicles in the important export market USA for the tenth year and are in second and third place in Germany for the most stable vehicles, right behind the Porsche 911.

The history of the Boxster is a testament to courage and foresight. In difficult economic times, Porsche decided to go on the offensive. And presented a study for a classic roadster with a mid-engine at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993. The design language of the show car was based on the 356 »No. 1« and the 550 Spyder. The great public response was the deciding factor for series production of the Boxster, which began in the summer of 1996.
Dynamic shape, outstanding driving performance and low price catapulted the sports car into the bestseller list. In order to place the successful concept on a broader basis, Porsche also developed a coupé based on the open two-seater. This was presented as the Cayman in 2005 at the IAA. The strong demand meant that the Boxster and Cayman were also manufactured at Valmet Automotive in Finland in addition to the production line in Zuffenhausen.
Overall, the model range currently includes four open versions: Boxster, Boxster S, Boxster Spyder and Boxster S Black Edition. There are also the coupés Cayman, Cayman S, Cayman S Black Edition and Cayman R. The engines of the two model series are between 255 hp (188 kW) and 330 hp (243 kW).
