Porsche Communication Management 6.0

With a new infotainment system, Porsche wants to make its models fit for the future. They now also feel addressed.

Porsche is bringing a new generation of infotainment to its new cars. The sixth expansion stage of "Porsche Communication Management" comes up with better networking, a new graphic interface and voice control. For the first time, Android Auto is integrated in addition to Apple Car Play. After the model year change in the summer months, the new hardware and software will initially be used in the 911 sports car, the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV.

The most obvious change is the new user interface, which is graphically clearer and more clearly arranged. The display can be configured by the user according to his own preferences by pointing a finger on the touch display. Many individual functions can now be used in different ways, whereby the new and now more intelligent voice control is also integrated. Anyone who marks a point on the navigation map with their finger and at the same time says "Drive me there" has already set the destination. Speech recognition is activated with the command "Hey Porsche".

In addition to the new user interface and operating logic, there are also new functions. The Apple Music streaming service is now integrated directly in the vehicle and no longer needs to be used via the smartphone or Apple Car Play. For the first time, Porsche now also supports Google's counterpart “Android Auto”, but initially only via a cable connection. In addition, the navigation system, including the real-time traffic situation calculation, should now work significantly faster than before, and new functions such as caravan detection should simplify use. If the driver is traveling with a trailer, the lower travel speed is taken into account when calculating the arrival time.

The new PCM uses the VW Group's infotainment kit as a technical basis, but offers different functions as well as a different design. Together with the software base, however, there is the option of "over-the-air updates" and a permanent Internet connection via the LTE cellular standard.
