Car care - prevent damage to the stand

car Care Prevent standing damage

If the car stands longer, for example due to exit restrictions and a ban on contact, damage to the stand is inevitable. So that the car still starts and looks good even after weeks, you should note the following things.

If the car is parked for a long time, damage to the stand is inevitable. The car doesn't even have to be motionless for very long. A few weeks without regular use can have consequences. A flat tire or a discharged car battery are the most common problems that result from a breakdown.

How bad the damage is in the end also depends on where the car was parked. Ideally, the vehicle is dry and safe from wind and weather in a garage during the unused phase. This dry and safe storage option is not always preferred.

In any case, however, the car should be brought to operating temperature again before it is parked in order to allow condensation from the engine and exhaust to evaporate.

However, the best way to effectively prevent damage to your stand is to move the car regularly. The vehicle should be moved at least once a month, preferably once a week. The car should be warmed up properly and brought to operating temperature, short distances are not conducive to this.

Preventing car damage: rust on the brakes

The brakes in particular are particularly susceptible to rust. De-icing salt, dirt and wetness are extremely damaging to the brakes. Even after a very short standstill, rust forms. Film rust worsens braking behavior. Residual moisture always causes rust on the brakes. The vehicle then does not decelerate as usual. To achieve an effective braking effect, the brake pedal must be pressed harder than usual.

Preventing damage to the vehicle with the right car care - this helps: Brake your vehicle's brakes dry before parking. Apply the brakes on your vehicle when you are ready to use it again. To do this, step on the brake pedal with full force so that the rust comes off.

Preventing damage to the car's standing: Tire plate

If the car stands a little longer, the rubber can deform. This often results in flattening. If the car is standing too long, weight may be pressing on one side of the tire. Over time, this causes the rubber to deform. When driving, a so-called standing plate can be recognized by its slight deformation and a changed rolling noise. A bumpy driving style can also indicate a stand plate.

With a very slight deformation, the plate can often recover after a few kilometers. In this case, check the tire pressure.

Increased tire pressure can help to avoid standing plates. For this reason, increase the tire pressure and move the trolley a little every now and then. To relieve the tires, it is also possible that you jack up the car.

Prevent car damage from damage to the interior: interior smells

A damp interior quickly leads to unpleasant smells. The moisture can get in from the outside. Damp shoes or wet clothing also lead to more moisture in the interior. If the car is not ventilated for a long time, for example, the interior begins to smell. Already when you open the door you get a horrible smell. Moisture can be recognized very quickly from fogged windows. Incidentally, these also impair visibility.

A dehumidifier placed inside the car quickly helps against moisture. Newsprint or cat litter are a good alternative here. If the vehicle is protected and dry, you can also leave the windows slightly open. This allows the air to circulate freely.

Prevent car damage from damage to the vehicle: air conditioning system smells

If the vehicle is parked for a long time or if the air conditioning system is not used frequently, bacteria and mold will collect. These can multiply freely in the evaporator. This process is exacerbated by a humid and warm environment.

To prevent unpleasant smells from the air conditioning system, make sure that the air conditioning system is used regularly. Before each trip ends, make sure that the air conditioning is switched off. The excess condensed water can evaporate. If you already smell the air conditioning, change the filter!

Preventing car damage from damage: empty battery

If the vehicle is not used for a long time, the battery can discharge. The alarm system and leakage currents gradually draw the juice from the battery. In the worst case, this can even lead to deep discharge of the battery. This will cause serious damage and your car will definitely not start.

To prevent the battery from completely discharging, you should connect the battery to a trickle charger.
